The group of people found in the recent exploration was, as mentioned, made up of fifteen individuals, who fell within a few metres of each other. They lay in the most varied positions, on the back, on one side, face down and impressively preserved (fig. 26) in the tension of the limbs, gestures and faces the dramatic image of the pangs of death. The group appears to be composed mostly of adult men with only two or three women, mostly young or in full age, but appropriate anthropological studies are needed to clarify this point. The height seems to be quite constant, ranging between 1.50m and 1.60m, with the only exception of man n. 7 with a long-limbed body about 1.80m high. Only two people, a man and a woman, had had the time - or the opportunity - to take something with them on the escape. Man no. 5 had on the left a sheathed dagger (fig. 27) and the scabbard (fig. 28) empty of a second smaller blade: at the feet shoes with a nailed sole. The woman, indicated with no.1, with harmonious shapes very well preserved in the imprint, had brought a small treasure with her on her flight: a silver statue of Isis-Fortuna depicting the richly draped goddess seated on a throne with the cornucopia and the rudder in the hands and three finger rings also in silver. One of these has the shape of a snake ending in two heads that bite into a patera with eggs, another is a simple band with a bezel decorated with an engraved palmette and the third has a chain from which a small phallus probably hung. The treasure, indeed modest, of the woman was completed by four silver coins (two from Vespasian and two republicans, one from M. Antonio and the other from 83 BC) and twenty bronze coins (sesterces and asses mostly of the time of Vespasian).

Porta Nola Pompeii. Press photo dated 18th September 1976 of body casts "Discovered this week on the outskirts of Pompeii".
The photo has been touched in in places for publication so it is difficult to be certain but comparing with the plan above could suggest: No.7 rear to the left? No. 4 with arm outstretched? No. 9 on the lower right? Numbers 4 and 6 would have been in this group also behind No. 9.
